Security technology partner turns passive camera feeds into real-time, AI-driven alerts

VulcanTech partnered with a confidential security technology company to build a smart security camera mobile app that manages multiple IP cameras and alerts users when a person is detected. AI-based person detection, live viewing by room and real-time push notifications turn continuous video into actionable information.

About the client

Confidential Security Technology Partner (NDA)

The client is a security technology company serving customers who rely on IP cameras to monitor their premises. Its proposition depends on making surveillance genuinely useful in everyday practice, ensuring that what cameras capture reaches the right person when it matters. The engagement began with an introductory call and a structured discovery session, followed by a scoped proposal.

The challenge

What needed to change

Conventional camera set-ups produce a great deal of video and very little insight. Footage streams continuously, yet few users watch it in real time, so events can pass unnoticed until long after they have happened. The partner needed a mobile application that addressed this directly. It had to manage multiple IP cameras within one organised experience, rather than presenting a single undifferentiated feed, and it had to identify meaningful events and bring them to the user's attention immediately. Motion-triggered recording alone was not sufficient, as it does not distinguish a person from other movement. The partner required intelligent detection that would recognise people in the frame and notify users in real time, with each alert linked to the specific camera involved.

The approach

How VulcanTech delivered

  1. 01

    Define the alerting experience

VulcanTech and the partner agreed how users should configure cameras, view live footage and receive alerts, placing timely, meaningful notification at the centre of the product design.

  2. 02

    Structure device management

The app was designed around adding and configuring cameras by IP address, port and credentials, and organising them by room so that users can monitor each area clearly.

  3. 03

    Add intelligent detection

AI-based person detection was integrated so that people in the camera frame are identified and visibly highlighted, rather than relying on motion triggers that cannot distinguish people from other movement.

  4. 04

    Deliver real-time notifications

Each detection event was connected to a real-time push notification that identifies the specific camera responsible, giving users immediate awareness and the context they need to respond.

The solution

What was delivered

VulcanTech delivered a smart security camera app for the partner. Multi-camera device management lets users add and configure cameras by IP address, port and credentials, and organise them by room. Live viewing is available per room, so users can check a specific area rather than scanning a single combined feed. At the core of the app, AI-based person detection identifies people in the camera frame and highlights them with an on-frame bounding box, distinguishing human presence from general motion. Each detection generates a real-time Person Detected push notification tied to the camera that triggered it, ensuring that relevant events reach the user immediately and with the context needed to respond.

Capabilities

Inside the platform

  • Multi-camera management

Add and configure cameras by IP address, port and credentials within one app.

  • Room-based organisation

Cameras grouped by room for clear, structured monitoring.

  • Live viewing

Live camera feeds available for each room.

  • AI person detection

Identifies people in the frame rather than responding to motion alone.

  • On-frame highlighting

Detected people marked with a bounding box in the camera view.

  • Real-time alerts

Person Detected push notifications linked to the camera that triggered them.

The impact

Business outcomes

  • From footage to alerts

Users are notified when a person is detected, rather than relying on someone watching video in real time.

  • More relevant notifications

Person detection distinguishes human presence from general motion, focusing attention on the events that matter.

  • Organised monitoring

Cameras are managed and viewed by room, replacing a single undifferentiated video feed.

  • Multi-camera management, with cameras added, configured and organised by room
  • AI-based person detection with on-frame bounding boxes, beyond motion-triggered recording
  • Real-time Person Detected push notifications tied to the specific camera
